L’HOMME DE RIO (That Man From Rio) (1965) - ODE TO BRAZIL (Part 4)
Not a Brazilian movie but a movie which had so much influence in capturing the booming culture of Brazil in the mid sixties. Philippe de Broca directed this amazing French adventure movie starring Jean-Paul Belmondo at his most dashing and Francoise Dorleac at her most beautiful as the girlfriend who is capture by evil Adolfo Celi and whisked away to Brazil. Belmondo chases her thru the jungles of the amazon (scenes that inspired Raiders Of The Lost Ark from Steven Spielberg who - legend says - watched this movie over 40 times), the streets and beaches of Rio and the nascent buildings created by oscar Niemeyer in Brasilia (video here)
A must see movie (US opening titles here)
Above are the US one sheet poster designed by Frank McCarthy, the original Italian poster with a great caricature of Belmondo and 5 Italian fotobusta posters from the 1972 rerelease
